Understanding NFA Regulations

The National Firearms Act (NFA) regulates the ownership of certain firearms and accessories including silencers, short barrel rifles (SBR), short barrel shotguns (SBS), machine guns, and destructive devices. While these items are legal at the federal level with proper registration, individual states may have additional restrictions or complete bans.

Federal Requirements

All NFA items require ATF registration, a $200 tax stamp, and approval through Form 4 (transfer) or Form 1 (manufacture).

State Laws Vary

Even if an item is federally legal, your state may prohibit ownership. Always check state laws before purchasing.
